Last month Roc Nation artist Belly, released his highly anticipated new album Inzombia. Continuing his promotional run for the album today he unleashes visuals for “Trap Phone,” featuring fellow Roc Nation artist Jadakiss. The Spiff Tv-directed visual features Belly and Jadakiss riding around northern Manhattan in classic cars, rocking throwback chains and clothes from the ‘90s.
Belly recently sat down with GQ to discuss the direction behind the visual, working with Jadakiss on the single, working with Tommy Hilfiger and much more.
So can you tell me about when you first heard Jadakiss’s verse? I know that was a big look for you to get him on that record.
Belly: Yeah man, I like, smiled for a week straight. Every time the song played, I was playing it for people, and that part would come in and I’d just be like, kind of laughing to myself in disbelief. I’ve been a fan of his, since I was young man. Since I was trying to learn how to do this. He’s definitely one of the people who inspired me to be in this game.
What was working with the Tommy Hilfiger team like?
Belly: They were really supportive of us wanting to do the Tommy stuff, but in the end I went and grabbed a bunch of vintage stuff from the actual era and wore that in the video. My bud went and sourced the stuff. I gave him the vision of what I wanted and he went out and found the pieces man. The hunt.
