G-Eazy’s Pop Up Shop ‘Gerald’s’ Took Over Oakland

G-Eazy kicks off his Gerald’s Pop-Up Show

Published

on

From the Bay to the Universe. Sums up both G-Eazy’s story and mission. After successfully putting out a platinum album, multi-platinum singles, amassing over a billion streams and traveling the world, G wanted to finish off this big year where he started…the Bay Area. Last week G-Eazy took over downtown Oakland and with the help of the Pallette Creative Agency curated one of the most extensive pop-up shop’s any rapper has ever put on for their community and fans. The week-long lifestyle-focused pop up held in celebration of his sold-out homecoming show at Oracle Arena incorporated activations including the Bay Area native’s friends as well as elements of his personal style and taste under one roof called Gerald’s.

Daily and nightly events at Gerald’s highlighted local Bay Area heroes from OG’s to the new guard like Too $hort’s “Pimp Tapes” Listening Parties with up and comers Hyphy Hoochies, the 11th Annual Mistah F.A.B. Toy Drive, Caleborate and Nef the Pharaoh Signings, and a Speakeazy featuring P-Lo, Kool John, Daghe Digital, Rexx Life Raj, Larry June, Marty Grimes.

The pop up included a barber shop, coffee shop, custom chain stitch embroidery by LA’s own ChainGang, printed zine of all film photography by Grady Brannan, all-new G-Eazy ‘Ladykillers’ merch collection pieces and exclusive brand collaborations with Levi’s, New Era, and Majestic.

Kali Uchis Covers The FADER’s Summer Music Issue

Kali Uchi graces final cover of The FADER’s Summer Music Issue

Published

on

Kali Uchi is next up to cover The FADER’s forthcoming Summer Music Issue. She is the final of four covers, following Cardi B, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, and Lil Yachty. The print edition hits newsstands July 25, and can be pre-ordered here.

Kali Uchis on her image ahead of her forthcoming album:
“I like to conceptualize a project before I put it in motion. The last project was all pastels and blonde and pink, all dreamy and angelic. It was very baby. This one is more mature. I feel more in tune with myself, Like I’ve actually come into my own as a woman.”

Tyler, the Creator on working with Kali Uchis:
“Her sense of melody is good and works really well with my chords. We knock ideas out quick, and we trust each other. Our timeline of songs 20 years from now is gonna be great.”

Kali Uchis on advocating for oppressed communities:
“I don’t like to see people using their power over others, trying to hurt people who are weak, or poor, or people with darker skin, or anyone who doesn’t have as much privilege. It makes me so angry. I want to fight for people. I want to be able to make some kind of difference in the world. I really don’t like to label myself. I just believe in standing up for people, and against discrimination. I consider myself an advocate for human rights. And for doing the right thing.”

Kali Uchis on her public persona:
“A lot of times I don’t feel like I’m her. A lot of times I feel like I’m helping her. But we have the same purpose.”

Lil Yachty Covers The FADER’s Summer Music Issue

Lil Yachty takes over The FADER’s Summer Music Issue

Published

on

Next up to comer The FADER magazine is Atlanta newcomer Lil Yachty, for their forthcoming Summer Music Issue. He is the third of four covers, following Cardi B and Paramore’s Hayley Williams.

Cover photo: The FADER/Brad Ogbonna

The print edition is set to hit newsstands July 25, and can be pre-ordered here.

Lil Yachty on his busy social life:
“I hate being alone. That’s why I like being with my friends: we’ve got energy, we’re social as hell. I’m not 30 or anything — I’m 19.”

On being treated like a child:
“Some of that shit is so lame. I push this ‘king of the teens’ shit, but they be thinking teens like 13. On some super corny, under-underage shit. It happens all the time.”

Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg on Lil Yachty:
“Yachty’s always gotten it. We had to have the old heads conversation, but we liked him personally. He’s wise beyond his years for sure.”

Lil Yachty on the unique artist & manager relationship he has with Coach K:
“It makes things pretty one-sided sometimes. Like, technically the manager works for the artist. What the artist says goes. But I know Coach always has the best intentions, so sometimes he just tells me what to do. And I don’t really have any say. I mean, I have a say so, but for the most part I don’t really care to say anything.”

Producer Su$h! Ceej on Yachty’s songwriting process:
“He knows what beats he wants and is very specific with the sound he’s trying to create, freestyling everything at first and fine-tuning as he goes, making a lot of songs in a short amount of time depending on how many pizza breaks or what video games are in the other room.”
