Next up for our Elite Introduction is Belgium born Jazz drummer Billie Davies, best known for her Avant Garde and Avant-garde jazz. After hearing a few of her bands amazing it was only that I include her in this category. Check the interview and some of her material below.
What was your first interaction with music?
My grandfather, Maurice Clybouw, was the first musical influence in my life, introducing me to the drums when I was about three years old. We were at his big annual factory party in Bruges and suddenly I found myself sitting on his shoulders as he walked through the party crowd and up on the stage and forced the drummer of the band to take me on his lap and let me play the drums. I have had a love relationship with rhythm and drums ever since.
What inspires you musically?
Everything in my life…
The Jazz greats that I heard constantly around me since I was a little girl.
My past young adult life in Europe, performing throughout the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Northern Africa, Spain, Portugal and Greece, and my life with the gypsies in the south of France that inspired my latest album “12 VOLT”, left a big impression on me.
Love, Romance, Drama, Art and People are a constant inspiration in my music.
