Getting back to our popular Elite Introduction series today we’re introduced to Miami based songstress Camille Kaye, who caught our attention with her unique cross between R&B,Soul and Dance-hall music. Inspired by the successes of acts such as Sean Paul, Beyoncé, Missy Elliot, Damian and Stephen Marley, Camille is sure to make big moves this year.
What was your first interaction with music?
I don’t think I can remember the first interaction ever because my parents were into music as well so music was ALWAYS going. But the first significant interaction I can remember is, driving on the way to school my mother would play cassettes in the car and every single morning she would play Mariah Carey’s 1st album, “Mariah Carey”. It was to the point where after about a month I knew all the words, ad libs, vocal runs, music changes, EVERYTHING! Lol. And I was super shy back then so I’d try to sing them in the car without her or my brother hearing me but I would practice like crazy under my breath and in my head. And then I took the cassette from her after she finally bought me a Walkman. No turning back after that lol.
What inspires you musically?
Musically I would say a lot of different things inspire me. From real life situations like love, hardships, success and relationships, to experiencing great talent, to getting an awesome piece of music to write for, to eating amazing food. Inspiration for me comes from anything that strikes enough of an emotion to stir up an idea or a melody.
