Introducing Multi-Talented Newcomer Dominique

Get familiar with New York-based Newcomer Dominique

Published

on

Today we’re introduced to the sounds of New York-based Singer, Songwriter and producer Dominique, whose received support from the likes of Huw Stephens via BBC Radio 1 and Beats 1 Radio as part of Ebro Darden’s “Discovered On Apple Music” segment earlier this year. Dominique started off creating looping covers of her favorite mainstream records and adding them to her YouTube channel. The cover versions included artists such as Lorde, Miike Snow, Troye Sivan, Allie X, Melanie Martinez, The Weeknd and Travis Scott.

Speaking on her cover version of Cassie’s “Me & You,” Dominique said:

“A couple months ago someone commented on the YouTube upload of my song “If I Could Go Back” saying that he hadn’t heard such a “crisp and effervescent-sounding song” since Cassie released “Me &U”. I had been looking for the perfect song to cover, and the second I read that comment I knew I had to give “Me & U” a try. I made the production a bit more ethereal and full, but kept the vocals as the focal point as Cassie did in her original. “Me & U” was one of my favorite songs during the summer of 2006, and I hope that when people hear my cover, they’ll feel the same nostalgia I felt while making my version.”

Kicking off her first official appearance Dominique blesses us with her cover version of  Cassie’s “Me & U” and her  brand new hip-hop and Pop inspired single “Use Me.”

Introducing Canadian Popstress Lexi Strate

Canadian Pop-stress Lexi Strate makes her Elite Debut

Published

on

Canadian Pop artist Lexi Strate first touched the scene with her debut EP WAVES. The 7-track EP features stand-out cuts such as, the highly popular single “Diamond Eyes,” “Out Of My Head,” “Miss Me,” “So Simple,” and “Antidote.” Abbey received both WCMA’s “Pop Artist Of The Year”, and Canadian Beats’ “EP Of The Year” for the project.

Continuing push for the project Lexi unleashed official visuals for the EP’s popular cut “Diamond Eyes,” shot by buzz-worthy director Travis Nesbitt. Last year Lexi began touring opening up for numerous artist and writing with some of the games top producers via writing camps in Toronto, Vancouver, and throughout Western Canada.

Fast forwarding to 2017 the talented pop-stress presents us with visuals for her new single “Going Going Gone,” an 80’s inspired electro-pop cut that brings the feelings of summer vibes and palm trees. When asked about the inspiration behind the single, and concept behind the music video Lexi told us this.

What was the inspiration behind the new single?

The song started with a hook line one of my producers (Dan Davidson) had, we started writing a more ballad type song  with a slower tempo. We did one session on it recorded a vocal and sent it off to my other producer (Ari Rhodes) in Toronto. Ari changed the chords and sped up the vocal we recorded, and it made the coolest sound. We ended up keeping that “Going Going Gone” lead chorus vocal in there because we thought it really set the production apart. On the next writing session the song just seemed to come together so easily. Lyrically, the song wasn’t inspired by a personal event, more just something that you’ve seen a friend go through. Its about a relationship thats stuck – its that point where it has to go one way or the other, and the decision that needs to be made when someone isn’t willing to fight to make things better.

What’s the concept behind the music video?

My video director, Travis Nesbitt had spontaneously bought a vintage Betamax camera and wanted to shoot a video with it. I was down with the idea of doing a bit of an 80’s theme because it’s not something that would usually be done for a pop artist and this song is kind of taking me down a new, “un-pop-like” path. The concept of the video is really just a full day/night out with the girls… having fun and being a bit rebellious -because that just seems like the perfect thing to do when you’re having boy troubles!! We actually ended up getting in some trouble with the cops – not part of the script – oops! We wanted to focus on bringing out my real-life personality with this video and I think it really compliments the song and my vibe well.

Alexandra speaks on the inspiration behind the EP and her name FJØRA:

“WATERCOLOR is my first EP release, which is why it was important to me that it be reflective of the person I am at this moment in time, It’s a little weird, a little quirky, dramatic, fun – a bit experimental and an exploration of the kinds of music I love and never thought I could be taken seriously for before. FJØRA means ‘rolling tide’ and having been strongly connected with water my whole life, it just made sense that this first ‘shade’ of music I share be encompassed by its name – combining the two most significant things in my life. Water and color. I am truly appreciative of this chance to now let it leave its nest and find its place in all of this beautiful world!”
