Kid Flicks – My Own Song

Kid Flicks was born in Lefkada 23 years ago and lives in Athens, Greece. Originally trained as a graphic designer and visual artist, from early high school years, he started his self-taught relationship with music. At times he had participated in some groups, until in December 2006 he decided to start writing his own music. His music explores the boundaries of pop and experimental music. He uses guitars, bass, mandolin, synths, percussion, found sounds, effects, samples and vocals in a way that sometimes makes them difficult to discern.
To the question “say something that characterizes him”, some of his friends’ responses are: he sketches and takes notes all the time, but at the same time has his mind on what is happening around him. He tries clothes that will never buy, he makes up fictional stories about people and situations of his entourage, he makes trip arrangements and travels on the same day, he screams without warning when he finds himself at places that nobody can hear, when looking at books and records he loses contact with his surroundings.
Hearts of Gold was written between 2008-2010 through experimentation, rehearsals, testing, and changes. The music, lyrics, musical instruments, singing, recording, mixing, artwork is entirely created by Kid Flicks. Its audio and artwork are so colorful and different from track to track that one would think that an entire team has been recruited for its production. There are several reasons for this… Kid Flicks recorded the album, using his MacBook, in the most unlikely places (besides his house, of course), e.g. in the car in a field outside Preveza, an evening on a beach, on a boat at sea, in a forest near his house in Lefkada. The tracks were also mixed in friends’ homes, cafés, student dormitories in Munich.
Hearts of Gold is an album that definitely should be heard as loud as possible, ideally with headphones and maybe on an island.
